Rockin Blues!!

These guys are awesome!! With Rock n' Roll Hall of Famer Johnnie Johnson!!! "Johnny B Good"

A Dose of Rock & Roll/The Reason for the Blues

Can the songwriter make a comment ? I am a very lucky individual, someone who experienced what it was to work with a beautiful man who was as important and seminal a musical force as has ever been. Everyone knows that Johnnie was one of the prime movers of what would come to be called Rock & Roll. His slot as an essential contributor to the Big Bang of Rock took place through the vehicle known as Chuck Berry. The world knows all about it. He became one of a very few “sidemen” to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Johnnie is the stuff of history, an immortal now. But, of course, he was just a man. I can tell you that, behind the scenes, Johnnie Johnson was a man’s man and a musician’s musician—his quiet charisma, humor, and gentlemanly way, were only some of the factors that helped create a phenomenon that was quite magical. You watched those big hands becoming one with the keys and were inspired on the deepest level to bring your very best. It wasn’t just me that felt that, many of the biggest musical stars had the Johnnie experience and then fawned over him the rest of his life, hoping to receive a musical affirmation from a master. As to these tracks—listen and you will hear Johnnie’s work speaking for itself. The piano in “Dose” is what those early Berry records would have sounded like if the tech were then what it is nowadays. And music historians have taken note that “The Reason for the Blues” is the only track in the vast discography of Johnnie on which he played organ. Thanks Johnnie, you left the auditorium but you're still bringing it…
