Album Review

This is one of pianist Vince Guaraldi's better sets. Showcased in a San Francisco-based trio with guitarist Eddie Duran and bassist Dean Reilly, Guaraldi plays seven standards plus his own "Like a Mighty Rose" tastefully and with light swing, making this a program that is equally successful as both cool jazz and background music.

An Incredible Work

One of the first albums I ever purchased, this album is hauntingly good. An easy gentle rythym pervades the enitre piece-i say piece beacuse Guaraldi really crafted an album with a cohesive blend. Perfect for listening with a drink and a friend at the end of a long day.

Laid-back, easy, engaging

This album almost seems like a throwaway of sweet nothings on first listen, but it never fails to feel fresh and engaging. The tempos are moderate, the playing delicate, but always grounded. Full of life, this has become one of my go-to albums of all time and I rate it with Kind of Blue and Time Out as a transcendent jazz album and certainly one of the top west coast jazz albums of all time.

Good CD!

I got this CD in a local Music/Media store because, well, it was only $6, and im in my Jazz phase. Every month I completely listen to a genre, wether it be rock or death metal, pop and rap, and even country. :| Anyway, im in my jazz phase. I love oldies jazz like this, and I found what I'm looking for. It's a breath of fresh air comparing to all the new music about violence sex & drugs. I just wish this album had the shaker thingy that goes like ch-ch-ch. I love that! Vince Guaraldi Trio is a great Jazz band!

Vince Guaraldi was a well-respected jazz pianist whose greatest success came from avenues usually closed to contemporary jazz artists: he enjoyed a hit single at a time when jazz had largely been exiled from the pop charts, and he scored a series of very successful animated television specials, a medium where cookie-cutter pop music was traditionally the order of the day. Guaraldi's first full album with his own group, simply titled The Vince Guaraldi Trio, was issued by Fantasy in 1956, and featured...
