A tremendous Celtic acoustic album

Ian Melrose has created a collection of acoustic guitar transcriptions that is uniquely flavored, full of wonderful arrangements, and never dull. His selection of tunes is very refreshing - I had only heard two of the tunes before. A combination of faster reels and jigs, mixed with slow, haunting melodies is powerfully colored by his awesome Lowden acoustic, some slide guitar and the occasional backup instruments. The pinnacle, I believe, is Huntingtone Castle; a masterful arrangement of a fascinating tune. Great stuff for celtic acoustic fans, and anyone who loves the sound of an acoustic guitar.

Celtic guitarist Ian Melrose was born in Middlesbrough, England but raised in Scotland; chiefly influenced by British folkies like Davey Graham, John Renbourn, Bert Jansch and John Martyn, he was fascinated by traditional music as a youngster but ultimately earned a law degree, only performing professionally after relocating to Berlin in 1981.
