iTunes Review

A Star Is Born was among the biggest successes in the careers of Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, but ironically the accompanying soundtrack is an anomaly in the catalogs of both artists. Kristofferson was a literary folksinger and counterculture icon, while Streisand was the grand diva of stage music. Because both singers were playing rock stars in the film, the soundtrack gave them the opportunity to inhabit new roles. It’s great fun to witness Kristofferson take on the sweaty arena rock of “Watch Closely Now” and “Hellacious Acres,” let alone the string-laden balladry of “Lost Inside You,” which is about as far removed from “Me and Bobby McGee” as music gets. Both singers are in good voice, but this is really Streisand’s show. She excels at playing the disco Madame on the sultry “Queen Bee” and the uptempo “I Believe In Love.” However, “Evergreen” is the album’s eternal signature. Co-written by Paul Williams, it lives midway between the pastoral singer-songwriters of the early ‘70s and the grandest tradition of Hollywood balladry.

A Star is Born

I watched this movie 21 times in 1975! I just loved it. Kris and Barbara had great chemistry and for a teenager that was awesome. I guess I am telling my age! Oh well. I enjoyed the album on LP and bought the movie on VHS. I have not found it on DVD yet. But at least I now have the music on my ipod!! I think my over all favorite on this soundtrack is "With One More Look At You", This particular song is very moving especially if you have watched the movie. I enjoyed the beat of "Queen Bee" Barbara is fantastic! "Hellacious Acres" sung by Kris is excellent! The entire sound track is terrific, there is not a song that I don't like. I like them all. This is definitely a winner! Thanks to iTunes I am a happy customer!

A Star is Born

An excellent album!! This takes me back to the 70's. Streisand is brilliant.

So Good

Man, just that romatic cover in itself would make you want to buy this! Not all the songs are quite my style, but i did purchase Lost Inside Of You. The words are superb. Kris is great on the number as well as Barbra. It's a far cry from some whiny love songs, this actually has DEPTH. There's no better or more honest, pure way to describe a true love. All in all, i'm sure most would find it an excellent collection.

Barbra Streisand's status as one of the most successful singers of her generation was remarkable not only because her popularity was achieved in the face of a dominant musical trend -- rock & roll -- which she did not follow, but also because she used her vocal skills as a mere stepping stone to other careers, as a stage and film actress and as a film director. Born in 1942 and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she struggled briefly as an actress and nightclub singer in New York during the early '60s...
