Album Review

Polished and serious, Happily Ever After does a great job of showcasing the band's talents: Toby Costa's raspy yet strong vocals, M.J. Law's pounding drumbeats, Mike Hoover's aggressive riffs and Kevin Leggieri's dynamic bass grooves. Yet the album feels a little too comfortable — the band sounds slightly restrained, especially compared to their live performances. Still, it's a worthy debut, with standouts like "Haunt," "It's Not Funny," "Atypical Day" and the single "Fearless."

Solution a.d. was formed in northeast Pennsylvania in 1991; originally known as just Solution, the band added "a.d." when another Solution was discovered. (Bassist Kevin Leggieri admitted the abbreviation doesn't stand for anything.) Live guitarist Chad Taylor, impressed by the group's performance at CBGB, offered to produce their EP, A Week There One Night, which was released in 1996.
