No Fluff Here

All of the songs created for A Child Is Born stem from worship services at Sojourn Church. For several years the musicians and performance artists have been trying to capture the right emotions in their holiday music. While some church music can be fluffy, you won’t find any of that here. The music at Sojourn looks at the dark places in the human heart that are full of angst and shows the longing and awkwardness of the human condition as we reach for Christ in all of our imperfections. Whether you like “church music” or not, give this album a chance. It is worth your time, and I promise you will love the originality, sound and substance of the artists that make up Sojourn.

Great album!

A Child Is Born is a wonderful "indie" take on some classic Christmas songs and a refreshing look at songs unfamiliar to most. If you are a fan of Sojourn's earlier work, you know that they are not your standard three chord Christian pop band. There are elements on A Child Is Born of roughness, rawness, passion, and authenticity generally not found on your standard CCM Christmas album- elements which separate them from most artists in the realm of Christian music. Highly recommended for fans of John Mark McMillan, Daniel Bashta, David Crowder Band, and similar artists.

Keeping religion

This album has been playing on repeat in my house ever since the end of Thanksgiving. Sojourn does an excellent job of capturing the holiday spirit while keeping true to the religious aspect of the holiday. It's refreshing to hear a group who has not lost sight of why we are celebrating in the first place! I would recommend this album to anyone, an excellent addition to the holiday music collection!
