iTunes Editors’ Notes

New York–based singer/songwriter Rachael Sage has delivered numerous literate and tuneful albums over the years, but Haunted by You marks a leap forward in both musical elegance and emotional power. Its songs are exceptionally eloquent in their portrayal of love’s delights and miseries, displaying an unusual frankness as well as great poetic craft. Sage is a mistress of closely observed lyric detail, whether she’s capturing the rush of new infatuation (“Abby Would You Wait”), ripping into an ex-lover (“Performance Art”), or facing up to her own romantic failures (“Confession”). Musically, she avoids rock overstatement in favor of nuanced cabaret-pop and light R&B, letting her songs speak in uncluttered piano and acoustic guitar–based settings. Her breathy vocals add to the intimacy of bittersweet tunes like “Birthday” and the title track. Upbeat numbers like “Invisible Light” and “Hey Nah” provide balance to the more self-lacerating moments here. The key to Haunted by You’s impact is its honesty: these are grownup songs by an artist who wants to let the world know she’s been both blessed and wounded in matters of the heart.

The way you can be happily haunted!

A beautiful blend of the meditative and the danceable! This album of Rachael's can feel as if its your life being sung about (or maybe just the life you want to be yours! :-)) and she just figured out the right words and magical melodies to express it and yet it just lets you feel as if your getting to look through a window into her (Rachael's) world. I would recommend this cd to any one who wants music that contains a meaning deeper then one layer. ;)

Haunted By You was my first Rachael album and it won’t be the last. Since then I’ve listened to her whole catalog. Her past albums may remind you of Tori Amos but on Haunted By You she radiates. There are no comparisons.

She is a magnificent songwriter. She draws you in with her introspective lyrics, examining themes of love found, unrequited and lost. This album is filled with ballads and a few pop songs as well. The poppy, infectious “Hey Nah” was written for a friend’s wedding. I dare you to not sing along to this song.

The standout tracks are “Haunted By You”, “Hey Nah”, “Performance Art”, “Soulstice” and “Abbey Would You Wait”. Do yourself a favor and buy the whole album. You will not be disappointed.

The title track says it all. This album is hauntingly beautiful, each and every note. I'm a big fan of Rachel's music. One of the rare artists who is able to capture the splendor of her live performances on record. Love this.

Born in Port Chester, New York, Sage developed a taste for music at an early age, listening to her parents spinning the Beatles, Billy Joel, Buddy Holly, and George Gershwin on the family stereo,...
