iTunes Review

The jazz singer shows her linguistic range on The Absence, handling English, French, and Portuguese with ease and élan. Sprightly acoustic guitar, spirited percussion, and lush strings are smartly arranged by Gardot’s producer and collaborator, the composer Heitor Pereira. But the focus throughout remains on her voice, whether it’s purring with vintage cabaret attitude (“Goodbye”) or keeping a beat afloat (“Mira"). The ballads are standouts, too, as “My Heart Won’t Have It Any Other Way” and “La Vie en rose” amply demonstrate.

This music is positively beautiful! My friend recommended this to me and I'm so glad she did!

A Masterpiece

This is by far our favorite Melody Gardot album. I predict it will be nominated for an album of the year. It's that good. It has been the soundtrack to our summer. We are a couple who are very very particular about what we listen to. So much musicality - rare these days.

At age 19 she was a fashion student at the Community College of Philadelphia. But, on a fateful day, while riding her bicycle, the driver of a Jeep made an illegal turn, hurtling into Gardot and leaving her in the street for dead. As she lay...
