iTunes Editors’ Notes

This 2011 compilation fearlessly claims that it has collected the absolute best of Dennis Coffey — and it has. It culls the cream of the legendary funk guitarist’s crop plucked from four albums spanning three years of Coffey’s tenure on the Sussex label: 1971’s Evolution, 1972’s Goin’ for Myself and Electric Coffey as well as Instant Coffey from 1973. “Ride Sally Ride” opens with hyper acid-funk begging for a dance party to erupt. If the R&B chart-topper “Scorpio” sounds at all familiar, that’s because it’s been sampled all over the place since the early 1990s. An amazing cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lot Of Love” proves to be a smoking standout, replete with fuzz-guitar and so much crazy note-bending that it seems quite possible that Coffee had replaced his shoes with two wah-wah pedals by then.

Customer Reviews

Phenomenal from start to finish!!!

A long overdue retrospective of funk/soul master Dennis Coffey - the most underrated guitar player of all time.

This is an excellent digital remastering of the highlights of Coffey's '70's work that never disappoints.

Get ready for Dennis Coffey's all new album (April 26) with this - it's well worth the $8.99 for sure!!!

Scorpio?

Yup, "Scorpio" is here, and it is the real deal, and not a cheesy re-recording. Load up, folks, and buy yourself some real '70s funk.

Bangin Beat!!!!
