Dominant Curve On A Wave of Pleasure

This collection of the old mixed in with the new has a familiar yet eclectic tone about it. Like little gems on a stoney shore; the package deal, brought together by an elusive Cage, which is masterfully arranged, is sublime.

Damn. . .

Wow. These guys are a rare find.

I've rarely heard such transparency in a string quartet- usually you just hear a bunch of mush, but with these guys, all the voices come across clearly and intelligently with real phrasing and expression.

They also have the courage to use their vibratos tastefully, not just to make playing "in tune" easier but to add nuance to the music - beautiful.

The "B" tracks are also really interesting. I'm no fan of John Cage, but this arrangement is something worth listening to, as is the new work by Jacobsen.

All in all, a real pleasure to listen to- dynamic, original, and keeps your attention throughout. I can't remember the last time I've thought that about a new string quartet album. Bravo.

A superb album

Born out of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, this quartet deftly handles both new and old literature. Boasting thoughtful interpretation and great playing, they are worth more than just a casual listen.

In "Lullaby", lush, ambient, textures unfold and bend to the will of Kojiro Umezaki's playing. The strings create a musical field while the shakuhachi drifts and hovers above; weaving in and out of the individual tones set forth.

The String Quartet in G minor is crafted and played well with crisp bowing, uniform technique and a lightness that serves Debussy well.
