EDITORS’ NOTES

These monastic nuns, hailing from Missouri’s Priory of Our Lady of Ephesus, quickly achieved renown with this, their first widely distributed recording. It's little wonder why: The warm-sounding album fits with the satisfying comfort of the repertoire, which includes English carols as well as Gregorian chants. The anticipatory spirit of the Advent season is a constant in the arrangements by the Order’s Prioress, Mother Cecilia, resulting in gleaming, beautiful passages (“Hayl Mary, ful of grace”) as well as more solemn entreaties (“Alma Redemptoris Mater”).

Beautiful Advent Album

Each year it seems that the Christmas season starts a little earlier. Radio stations begin playing Christmas music before the Thanksgiving turkey is brought home from the store. By the time Christmas comes, many of us might be 'Christmas-ed' out! We could fix this problem by reclaiming Advent. Unfortunately, most of our Advent music collections are a little thin. In comes the album Advent at Ephesus. The angelic voices of the Benedictine nuns will carry you back to Nazareth, to the angel Gabriel's greeting to the Virgin Mary, "Hail, full of grace!" The nuns' sublime renditions of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" and "Rorate Caeli", among others, will excite in you the sentiments of longing and waiting which came before the Advent of Our Lord. This Advent, this CD will be a great aid to enriching and deepening your own preparation for Christmas and for Christ's second coming.

One for the collection

I admit I have gotten tired of the same old same old in my classical music collection…I just randomly heard about this and downloaded it, and it has already brought me great peace. Really beautiful work. I am hoping this is going to help me to stay sane leading up to Christmas…

Heavenly Voices

Great album at the appropriate time for the album release. My soul is lifted up when listening to these heavenly voices. Thank you Lord.
