After helping popularize Brazilian funk carioca, or baile funk, Germany's Daniel Haaksman turns to African electronic hybrids, working with musicians from across the continent. Sometimes, the mood is sunny, as on the South African cover "Akabongi" or the Congolese funk tune "Sembène"; the energy rises with the kuduro rhythms of "Xinguila" and the crisp claps of "Black Coffee." "Afrika" boasts spine-tingling vocal harmonies, and "Raindrops" is a twinkling marimba study; the fusion spirit comes to a head on "Querido," which unites desert blues, snapping electronic drums, and Afro-Colombian champeta guitar.
