iTunes Review

In his time, Neil Young has played the visionary poet, the starry-eyed romantic, the maniacal garage rocker, and more. On 1970's After the Gold Rush, he combines these personas into a compelling whole. Supported by the rough-hewn prowess of Crazy Horse, Young fills these tracks with wistful melancholy and moral outrage.  His lyrics embrace sci-fi scenarios ("After the Gold Rush"), narrate cryptic nightmares ("Don't Let It Bring You Down"), and confront smoldering injustices ("Southern Man") with equal conviction. Beyond the big statements are intimately bittersweet moments like "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" and "I Believe in You." Young's volatile lead guitar and fragile-to-ferocious vocals are caught in peak form. Whether the tune is folk-rooted ("Tell Me Why") or rock-fueled ("WhenYou Dance I Can Really Love"), Young delivers convincingly.  After the Gold Rush ranks among hisrichest and most rewarding works.

The Bridge Between....

'' After the Goldrush'' was an excellent album set between ''Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere'' and his great classic,''Harvest''.While not as good as either of those two,it was still a great work in its own right. If '' Nowhere'' and''Harvest'' were rated 10 ''Goldrush'' would be a 9....A top notch album and should be in any collection.

Neil -- simply amazing

How do you write about him? Not a "Super Star" according to media however his direct influence over the decades is incredibly hard to note accurately here. He has dozens of aliases as songwriter, singer, philanthropist, activist. The list goes on and on. Anyway -- This particular work is embedded in my mind. I know every song and the one that follows it on the album. (you should listen to vinyl) This is great stuff

Neil, Neil, Neil

My favorite Neil Young album because it came to me at all the right time in my life. Not the greatest lyricist, but pure passion and the greatest sounding tenor of all time.

Biography

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

After Neil Young left the California folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield in 1968, he slowly established himself as one of the most influential and idiosyncratic singer/songwriters of his generation. Young's body of work ranks second only to Bob Dylan in terms of depth, and he was able to sustain his critical reputation, as well as record sales, for a longer period of time than Dylan, partially because of his willfully perverse work ethic. From the beginning of his solo career in the late '60s through...
