Album Review

By the time of Against the Grain, Acoustic Alchemy's albums had become rather indistinguishable from each other. All of the records contained fine moments, but their gentle, lilting music began sounding a little formulaic. Nevertheless, that doesn't make Against the Grain a bad album — just not a particularly noteworthy one.

Smooth, Playful and an all around Pleasure

This is the album that hooked me. I'm now a self proclaimed fan of Acoustic Alchemy. There smooth sounds and precision guitar playing easily grab you and ease you into a more pleasurable mood. Listen to "Lazeez", for a swift paced latin piece or try "Road Dogs" for a little calmer yet cheerful tune. You really can't go wrong with any of them.

Don't Believe the Album Review Above

This is an incredible album! From my first listen in 1994 in a Tower Records Listening Station, I was drawn into the beautiful musical world of Acoustic Alchemy. Every song is perfect in its own right. Together, they constitute one of those rare albums you couldn't live without on that proverbial desert island. My favorite is Across the Golden Gate. Every listen is fresh and invigorating. If you're a new fan of AA, this is a must-have. If you've been following them for any time at all, I'm sure you love this one too.

I was hooked.

Many years ago I went to buy some new Paradigm speakers. The rep that was showing me speakers put this album in and i "Test drove them". Holy crap. I was blown away and have been a fan of these guys ever since. This is one album to own in ANY collection. Great sounds and clarity. MG.

During the late '80s and '90s, Nick Webb and Greg Carmichael produced a series of mellow albums classified as adult contemporary music, though the guitarists encompass the range of jazz and new age as well. Both grew up in England during the '60s listening to pop/rock, though Webb studied jazz guitar at Leeds College of Music while Carmichael focused on classical guitar at the London College of Music. Originally formed by Webb and Simon James, Acoustic Alchemy later became Webb and Carmichael; the...
