Jamal as I remember

This album from 1958 is the quintessential Ahmad Jamal - smooth, jazzy, and very, very cool. He set the bar for the smooth jazz that followed. This is a must have album.

Good but Misleading

The music on this album is indeed excellent, but -as is often the case on budget releases- the personnel and date information provided is all wrong. This group doesn't sound anything like his 50s/60s "Poinciana" trio and, in fact, isn't even a trio as you can hear on tracks 3 through 6. That's probably Gary McFarland on vibes and I'm guessing the other two are Frank Gant and Jamil Nasser. It's great music, but try something else if you are looking for Ahmad's classic late 50s sound.
