Swinging with a perfect touch on the piano...

Mr. Wilson plays the piano exactly as I like to hear it. Generally, a lot of jazz piano music that swings has a pretty hard attack. And sadly, a lot of jazz piano music that has a lighter touch doesn't swing much... Mr. Wilson combines the best of both worlds... an amazing swinging pianist, with an elegant touch. The perfect balance. Nice rhythmic complexity to the music, but at the same time keeping space in the music. My personal favorite pianist. This album presents Teddy Wilson in a trio format (piano, bass, drums)... a fantastic introduction to his work.

Real Class!

I first saw Teddy Wilson in the early 1960's at The Showboat in Washington, D. C. He plays an impeccable piano as the title says. A very classy man and very swinging music. Thanks Teddy!! It's a shame so many of these great ones are gone, but, never forgotten. Buy this great ITunes selection.

He picked up early experience playing with Speed Webb in 1929 and appearing on some Louis Armstrong recordings in 1933. Discovered by John Hammond, Willie joined Benny Carter's band and recorded with the Chocolate Dandies later that year. In 1935, he began leading a series of classic small-group recordings with swing all-stars...
