iTunes Review

It’s the quiver in Dean Martin’s voice that makes him utterly charming. Whether describing a recipe for romance (“Memories Are Made of This”) or the moon looking like a big pizza pie (“That’s Amore”), the wobble in his throat sounds like laughter. In more romantic moments (“Innamorata

Where's The Real Tracks?

Several years ago I saw this CD in a bargain bin, so, being a Dean Martin lover, I picked it up and fell in love with the whole thing. Problem here, this isn't the one I bought at the store. This has different tracks on it. In fact, if you research it through Wikipedia, you'll see what I mean.

Great CD, though not as crazy about this digital copy since it's been reordered, changed, and edited. Sorry, iTunes, you took a great album and made it mediocre.

The Cabby is right

I agree with TheCabby. These aren't the same tracks as the version I have. It has most of the important ones from the original though. Both versions are a little bloated. There's about 9 throwaways on the original version - not what you should see with an "essentials" collection. And there's some less popular Dean songs that I would have put on in place of some of the weaker selections.

Dean moved through a lot of styles of music, but it's his Italian and swinging songs that I like the best. I didn't really love his cowboy western and 50's sounding songs. Not even Dean can make horrible background singing (like the intro to Sway) tolerable.

Dino The Essential Dean Martin

My dad loved him I grew up listening to him. When my dad died I listened again and realized that his voice is a GREAT voice. He is a joy to listen to and btw I'm 43, live in the South and love country music. Variety is a good thing!

Enjoying great success in music, film, television, and the stage, Dean Martin was less an entertainer than an icon, the eternal essence of cool. A member of the legendary Rat Pack, he lived and died the high life of booze, broads and bright lights, always projecting a sense of utter detachment and serenity; along with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr. and the other chosen few who breathed the same rarefied air, Martin -- highball and cigarette always firmly in hand -- embodied the glorious excess of...
