Yes, the original band, just not featured in "Billy Jack"

Per the liner notes from Rhino's "Have A Nice Day: Greatest Hits of the 70's" CD (where you will find Coven's version), The Original Caste charted the song in 1969, while the version by the American group Coven was featured in the sleeper movie hit "Billy Jack" two years later and rode that popularity onto the charts a couple of times in the early 70's. Both versions are good, Caste's version may be a bit easier to sing along with since it doesn't go as high and you don't have to slip into a British accent at different times:)

Undiscovered Gem

This whole album is good old fashioned social justice-spread the lovin' folk-rock from Canada, like much else that is great (Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen). Also, if you're looking for the actual, non re-recorded One Tin Soldier, here it is.
