The Perfect Album

Never heard of these guys? Don’t worry. They aren’t even signed to a label. This local San Diego act started off as a busking pantomime and developed into a full-blown music/comedy show. Three steam powered automatons, The Spine, The Jon, and Rabbit, make their way through a world of mechanical wonders and strange human emotions. This album has every element of music you could possibly imagine. Vocal harmony, synth riffs, acoustic accompaniment, catchy phrases and tunes, comedic interludes, blues piano runs, Beatles style vocal melodies, folk instruments, it’s all there. The list goes on and on. Every song stands out, even the ‘filler’ content, and at the same time creates a unanimous whole. If someone were to ask me what a perfect album was, I would hand them a copy of SPG’s Album One. I don’t have a favorite song for this one, but I would strongly recommend starting off with “Brass Goggles” and “Electricity is in My Soul.”

PS: On the off-chance that one of SPG actually reads this, let me just say: This album has changed my perception of what 'good music' is. Well done on successfully re-inventing some of music's most time-honored styles. Keep up the good work! I look forward to listening to The Two-Cent Show.
