Evolving without selling out.

In times where mainstream borrows synth pop bits to sell bad tunes, it's rare to see a group remaining true to its roots without following the expected road of submission to mainstream. Alias begins with the song Closer, a nice synth intro with macabre undertones. After a couple of upbeat tracks, the song Baphomet hits you back into the brooding club scene with the tempo and the small pauses. This album is very well crafted because after a couple of 'ok' songs, the balance is placed with the title track Alias. This is a great track that has the upbeat of the entire album, plus the vocals really bring it to the brooding atmosphere we've all come to love. Then with the build up of songs like Nitrate and Immer, we get the best track in Ascii Disko's Alias. Not only because it's a cover of "I wanna be your dog" or because it's a long song. But it's the delivery and blend of these 3 songs, accompanied by the untitled track at the end, that make this band unique and alive.

Ascii Disko kicks! It's punchy, dirty, noisy (especially in "Baphomet"), but occasionally very melodic, too. "Tzssrck" sounds kinda like Adriano Canzian, while "Bliss" has a guitar part straight outta "Never Win" by Fischerspooner (the electronics are very diffirent). If you like catchy beats with dirty synths, I'd recommend this. Their other album's good, but not so dark and crunchy. Long live Ascii Disko!
