wasn't sure, but....
Man, I gotta be honest here. I wasn't really expecting much from this cat. I'm a hip hop head to the core, and a lot of times, more conscious / positive rappers miss the mark with either skills or content. Othello gets an A+ on BOTH!! This dude reminds me of a top calibur eMCee like Gift of Gab or Pep Love from Hiero, with some real flavor and style like a Dilla or Common. I'm feelin the beat selections. Props to Stro, and I think its fresh he used a live band in conjunction with a producer for a bunch of the tracks. You just earned a pretty picky fan, Othello. Peace.
This guy keeps it true to the game hardkore when it comes to hip hop. Othello brings it all yall. With sick crazy flows to great melodies that'll keep ya head noddin' for sure. He also has very good speacial apperiences like Pigeon John, Lightheaded, D Minor, Surreal, Vursatyl, Propaganda and more! So be sure not to miss out on this wonderful album that'll have ya beggin' for more! And the best songs in my oppinion (for those that want just a couple of mp3's) are.... 1. Silhouette 2. Let's Just 3. Shallow 4. R.A.P.S. 5. Fly 6. Alive at the Assembly Line .... all the other songs are good too but in my opinion these to me are the best. But if I were you i would download the WHOLE album like i did~
Excellent and Creative
You will enjoy Othello if you appreciate Hip hop, Jazz, and creative lyricism. This cd is full of it. While I enjoy Othello on "Elevator Music" and his other album appearances, this cd is definately his best work to date in my opinion. I was a little hesitant to get Alive at the Assembly line because Elevator Music was a little hit and miss, musically speaking. There were a couple of strong tracks but plenty of filler. This album certainly raises the bar and most people will be able to listen to it without skipping any tracks. The creative strength of this cd is that Othello raps over a Live Jazz Band on every track. The album is perhaps more Jazz heavy than anything else, which in my opinion makes it awesome, since "jazz fused hip hop" is my favorite type of music. If you simply like Rap but have no interest in Jazz, than you might not like this cd nearly as much, but any hip-hop fan should appreciate it. It's a 4.5 star album, but I added half a star for the creativity of the Live Band which makes this a refreshing album.
