iTunes Review

Their second album on Island Records rings and shines with the over-the-top production values of GRAMMY®-awarded super-producer Dave Sardy (Oasis, Wolfmother, Marilyn Manson, Johnny Cash, Jay-Z, The Rolling Stones, etc). A bombastic title-track opens with rumbling rhythms and gossamer strings, courtesy of the Calder Quartet, as music critic-turned-frontman Mikel Jollett croons with the heartfelt, soaring inflections of a young Bono. “Numb” is similarly dramatic as winding guitars and trudging drumbeats accompany distorted synthesizers while Jollett sings lyrics about the joys of succumbing to the stereotyped aloof numbness associated with Los Angeles. Loaded with barbed hooks, the angularly arranged “Changing” kick-starts the early 2000s revival before Jollett affects a demure Julian Casablancas approach to the Strokes-esque “It Doesn’t Mean a Thing,” right down to the slightly distorted vocals.

Something New?

I downloaded the album sometime around midnight. What else is there to say? I thought my happiness might be overrated for this sophomore effort. I was wrong. What cannot be overrated is this band. From the first listen to their first album, I was hooked. The same is true for "All at Once". Emotionally charged vocals, simple pounding drum beats and slick guitar riffs make this album just as acoustically pleasing as the first. The only I will have to share the Airborne Toxic Event with an ever growing number of fans. But fear not guys, when you make your tour stop near my town, I'll be there in the front row! Congrats on another great album!!!

THIS BAND HAS ME AT A LOSS FOR WORDS, EVERY SECOND OF EVERY DAY. To me, The Airborne Toxic Event started as a freebie of the week at a local Starbucks, and has now become the epitome of what music should be. Jolett's messages are clear, romantic, inspirational, and poetry in themselves--add in the rest of the group and you've got a ONE IN A MILLION dynamic, MY FAVORITE BAND by far. In an auto-tuned world this band stays true to themselves as real musicians, real artists, and keeps honest in the faces of their fans. Buy this albumn. If you haven't bought their self titled debut, go get it. As anyone who's ever gone to a show or seen All I've Ever Wanted (both for me) can tell you, these guys pour their hearts and souls into every song, every show, and ever second of stagetime they've earned through their hard work and passion, and deserve so much more credit than they've gotten. This is alternative musics little secret--a band that doesnt drown you over the radio, but is always there with a new single, a new music video, another reason to become a fan for life. The Airborne Toxic Event is what music today has been missing. This band is all I'VE ever wanted.

Euphoria once again...

This album is gripping, highly emotional, and overwhelming to the point that it makes you want to cry. It's a masterpiece. It's a melting pot of love, hate, loss, and happiness. It wakes the soul and evokes every emotion known to mankind. I'm blown away. Top of 2011. Perfect.

Formed by novelist Mikel Jollett during a tumultuous period in his life, the Airborne Toxic Event (named after a section in American author Don DeLillo's novel White Noise) combine literate indie rock with real literary cred. Formed in 2006, the group initially took shape as a Los Angeles-based duo, with Jollett and drummer Daren Taylor serving as the only members. A roster expansion was eventually needed; as a result, classically trained violinist Anna Bulbrook was brought in to play viola and keyboards,...
