Album Review

After showing early potential, Dee Dee Bridgewater wandered into commercialism and then moved to France. This 1986 recording started her artistic "comeback" and showed that she had developed and matured during her years in Europe. Backed by her regular French rhythm section, Bridgewater is in spirited and creative form on such numbers as "All Blues," "There Is No Greater Love," and "Cherokee," among others. Her arrival as a major singer in the years since this set has been a welcome event. Recommended.

Dede Bridgewater in Paris

Amaaazing album! Dede's vocals are so pure and crisp. She uses her full range and has the vocal control of an opera singer. I should know, I sing opera. Great job; what a talent; what a pure gift. Even after 2 decades she is still go'in strong since' THE WIZ'

It doesn't get any better than this. Dr. Feel good? Wow!

She sang with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis orchestra (1972-1974) and appeared in the Broadway musical The Wiz (1974-1976). Due to erratic records and a lack of direction, Bridgewater was largely overlooked in the jazz world by the time she moved to France in the '80s. She appeared...
