iTunes Review

Assembled by esteemed ‘60s rock historian Andrew Sandoval, The Kinks’ The Anthology 1964-1971 is a first-rate summary of the legendary group’s first seven years. Hardcore Kinks fans consider this the band’s prime—and the music heard here supports it, as it runs from the band’s earliest hits (“You Really Got Me,” “All Day and All of the Night”) through to the highlights and obscurities from and surrounding classic albums such as Face to Face, The Village Green Preservation Society, and Arthur. Previously unreleased mixes, backing tracks, and session recordings add treasures alongside the timeless original studio recordings.

Customer Reviews

the anthology 1964-1971

Sorry iTunes but $70.00 is a little bit too much! I bought the "Picture Box", 6 CDs with the same songs and I paid $39.95.

Forget the other reviews.

The other reviews from before this came out at the end of 2014 can be forgotten. iTunes never really had a supply of any of the Kinks's 1960s-era hits before. Considering you can buy these tracks a la carte, you don't have to spend the $70 as one person complains, or just hear the previews for cheaper as another complained. For the first time, possibly ever, iTunes now has the Pye-era songs that had been unavailable for years. And they're not the remakes. So, don't overthink it, and just enjoy what the Kinks brought to the table during the British Invasion.

Too Expensive

Great anthology of songs but you can easily find it on the interwebs for much less $$. I really reccomend doing the "preview all" slecetion if you can' afford either option. It's still like an hour of Kinks

Biography

Formed: 1963 in London, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s

Although they weren't as boldly innovative as the Beatles or as popular as the Rolling Stones or the Who, the Kinks were one of the most influential bands of the British Invasion. Like most bands of their era, the Kinks began as an R&B/blues outfit. Within four years, the band had become the most staunchly English of all their contemporaries, drawing heavily from British music hall and traditional pop, as well as incorporating elements of country, folk, and blues. Throughout their long, varied career,...
