Album Review

The lyrics on Our Lady Peace's Gravity rage at the spiritual bankruptcy of suburban oldsters ("All for You"), express tender regret over love lost ("your purple hair" is among the items missed in "Somewhere Out There," a kind of apocalyptic variation on "These Foolish Things"), and otherwise zoom in on the blemished face of modern life. It's apparent that Raine Maida has a message and the pipes to deliver it with angst and fury in appropriate proportion. ~ Robert L. Doerschuk, Rovi

Incredible

OLP are an incredibly talented band! They consistently have unique music, and their vocalist (Raine Maida) is what really sets them apart with their own sound nobody else can really pull off...I will say that they have a sound that is either instant-love or instant hate (kinda like radiohead I guess). Its a strong sound and you have to be able to appreciate that. However, I was not introduced to these guys until the release of this album, for which the song "Somewhere Out There" got a massive number of plays on my local radio station. After that I was hooked, and quickly purchased all their albums. I also strongly reccommend their previous album, Spiritual Machines as one of the best albums put out period. They have put out a total of 5 Albums: Naveed, Happiness... (Is not a fish that you can catch), Spiritual Machines, Gravity, and Healthy in Paranoid Times. Each offers a different feel, without losing the overarching feel the band gives off. Gravity is by far what I would consider the most 'produced' sound...almost all their other work strongly maintains an indie feel to it. ENJOY! :)

OK

Really not that bad, but pales in comparison to the band's earlier works. It's a pity that iTunes doesn't have their 4th release, Spiritual Machines, in their catalog.

One of the Best CD's Ever

Very rarely does a group accomplish what Our Lady Peace did with this CD. The whole CD is good, not just a few songs. Some of the songs are instant classics (Somewhere Out There, Innocent, Not Enough) and then the others are good songs that grow on you even more after a few times of listening. Honestly, this is my favorite CD of all time. Watch out though. Even though this CD is one of the best, their other CD's get kind of weird. The recordings sound cheap and the style is a lot different. But Gravity is a must have.

Our Lady Peace was one of the most successful Canadian bands of the post-grunge era, issuing platinum-selling album after platinum-selling album while also enjoying modest acclaim in America. The group formed at the University of Toronto in 1992, where vocalist Raine Maida and guitarist Mike Turner (a British expatriate) first banded together under the name "As If". They later recruited bassist Chris Eacrett and jazz drummer Jeremy Taggart, and the quartet changed its name to Our Lady Peace in tribute...
