Album Review

The sixth full-length outing from the tech-savvy, Boston-based post-hardcore unit, All Hell, as its name implies, is an abrasive, full-tilt rager that aims for catharsis via pure, unadulterated fury. Terse, workmanlike, and relentlessly aggressive, the ten-track set breaks little new ground for the band, but their scorched earth policy is as firmly implemented as ever, and it's that steely-eyed focus on the mission that keeps Vanna from disappearing into the black hole of vitriolic mediocrity that consumes so many of their contemporaries. Opener "Paranoia Euphoria" wastes little time in landing the first punch, with lead screamer Davey Muise declaring "I wasn't meant for this world" and "I can't trust a single sound that comes pouring out of your goddamn garbage mouth." As per usual, the band bolsters his howls of despair with enough sonic might to bring down every satellite in orbit, but a surprisingly measured and melodic turn on the brooding, midtempo "Flower" shows them to be as adept at wringing real emotion from hopelessness as they are at simply lighting the fuse and watching the world burn.

Customer Reviews

I love this band.

This is a good record, and I will always support this band. It doesn't hit me as hard as TFATFB and Void, but I'll be jamming it all summer.

Vanna NEVER Disappoints! I have my money on this album! These dudes will never stop growing!

Back at it

VANNA never disappoints and if Pretty Grim is any indication then this album will be another banger

Comprising Joe Bragel (vocals), Nick Lambert (guitar/vocals), Evan Pharmakis (guitar/vocals), Brandon Davis (drums), and Shawn Marquis (bass), their music often alternated between melodic singing and visceral growling. The band parted ways with Bragel for personal reasons in February 2006, and a new vocalist,...
