iTunes Review
Tributes to the late Duane Allman have been many, but Gregg Allman—who announced he'd retire The Allman Brothers Band at the end of 2014—has soldiered on through the years. On Jan. 10, 2014, this star-studded tribute concert, directed by Don Was, was held at Atlanta's Fox Theatre with Gregg able to attend and perform. The performances from guests Sam Moore on “Please Call Home,” Keb’ Mo’ on “Just Another Rider,” and Dr. John on “Let This Be a Lesson to Ya” show how naturally Allman’s work fits into the wide lexicon of American music. Train’s Pat Monahan might not be who you’d expect for “Queen of Hearts,” but he taps into the Allman mystery. John Hiatt rides “One Way Out” with a nasty groove. Widespread Panic obviously learned their jam band ethos from the Allmans, and Jackson Browne and Gregg go back to the very beginning. (Gregg gave Browne’s “These Days” the definite interpretation, which retaught the song to Jackson himself.) Country artists Trace Adkins, Vince Gill, and Martina McBride pay tribute from their side of the musical aisle.

This is simply the best compilation of artist, songs and pairings I have ever heard and proud to own. Honoring Gregg Allman, the guests are exactly who you would expect them to be with some great surprises.
