Bill was right...
Ok, we love Bill Evans... his work with Miles.... his solo and trio work in the early 60s. This disc may not be as fine as, say, Portrait in Jazz, but you can certainly hear the classic color of Evans' playing coming through here. More importantly, though, is the Itunes message that Bill Evans released this recording 15 or so years after it was recorded because he thought it was a good playing of Paul Chambers' prowess on the bass. And Bill was right; Paul's great on the whole set. Check it out.
Classic block chording
The green dolphin recording is the best example of block chord voicing available, surpassing even George Shearing. It is a comprehensive roadmap for improvisation. It is a blueprint with voicings and sequencing that begin where the melodies of other songs end. A note for note transcription is an entire course for the aspiring musician
