iTunes Review

All the People Said Amen finds Matt Maher presenting his best-loved songs in a live setting, with four new studio tracks added. Over the past decade, the Canadian-born Christian singer/songwriter has approached worship music with a lyrical intimacy and eclectic sense of musicianship that sets him apart from his peers. His latest release catches him on tour with a muscular road band capable of veering from gentle praise compositions to burly blues-rooted numbers without disturbing the overall reverent vibe. Such signature tunes as “Turn Around,” “Your Grace Is Enough,” and “Christ Is Risen” take on bolder colors here, giving them a visceral impact to match their spiritual message. Maher lets his inner Southern rocker run free on snarling, guitar-driven versions of “On My Way” and “Hold Us Together.” At the other end of the spectrum are such acoustic-centered pieces as the quietly inspirational “Adoration” and the contemplative “Mighty Fortress.” The new songs “Lord, I Need You” (a stirring collaboration with Audrey Assad) and the title track (a buoyantly upbeat call for brotherhood) compare favorably with the best of Maher’s earlier work.

True, many of the songs aren't technically "new" songs (however the ones that are new studio recordings are great!) but one of things that makes Matt a great musician and worship leader are his abilities in a "live" atmosphere. Those qualities come through in this album! Matt's dynamic and charismatic abilities to lead a body in communal worship are clearly evident in these live tracks. It's also great to see some previously unreleased tracks amongst the live songs like "It Is Good" and "On My Way." Above all it's great to hear Matt's Catholic identity shine in this album, with inclusions of "Adoration" "Great Things" and "Christ Is Risen" (among others) as well as in his live worship style. Even when some would persecute him for it, Matt wears his love of Christ and His Church on his sleeve and it gives other worship leaders, like myself courage to do the same. Keep up the great work, Matt! We are praying for you! -matt

Simply amazing!!! All of my favorite songs from him are in one album and many of them are live! Makes me think of Steubenville!! I love it!

stop talking during the songs

This is my first purchase of a Matt Maher album… Songs are good...I know it's live but listening at home, I wish he would stop talking/shouting during the songs and stick to singing.

Christian singer and songwriter Matt Maher was born in Newfoundland, Canada, but it was not until a family upheaval led Maher to the desert climes of Arizona that he would find his calling and begin a musical career that would find him composing work for genre artists such as Bethany Dillon and Chris Tomlin, as well as releasing albums and playing shows across the Southwest -- and eventually the world. Having been asked to take on the mantle of youth pastor and music director at his church, Maher...
