iTunes Review

Clearly Erika Wennerstrom, whose voice is at the center of this band’s every move, has her sights and those dominating pipes set upon an innovative journey to discovery. The song titles here tell the story: there’s the expansive, “Searching for the Ghost” the building rocker, “Finding Solutions,” and finally, near the end, the lumbering, near-metal, guitar basher, “No Pointing Arrows.” Maturing songwriting and rapidly improving playing make this set a quantum leap forward from the yearning, Cincinnati garage rock heard on the band’s debut. Now a fiery drive and a broader musical palette have moved Wennerstrom to sing in the piano-led opener “Into The Opener,” that “things are coming into focus.” The powerful front woman has also spread her wings as a singer, even turning poppy and sprightly in “All This Time,” whose effective loud-soft chorus has become a favorite songwriting tactic. Near this collection’s end, the power-trio thump turns to a roar in “Valley of Debris” where one of Wennerstrom’s guiding touchstones, the volume riff rock of Led Zeppelin, adds yet another influence to her fast developing talent.

Oooh that smell

A woman walked by me a few months ago and smelled amazing. I have yet to find that particular smell again and probably never will. You will not hear another band like this probably ever. If you do, savor the scent. Robert Rolfe Feddersen

Self-conscious yet genuine.

I don't write many reviews, but this album deserves the 5 stars that I gave it. I'm a fan of all types of music, but I'm pretty picky in each genre. This is one of those rare albums that can be seemingly nothing yet everything at the same time. The instrumentation is pretty basic, but there is so much emotion packed into every note and every sound that it doesn't matter. Erika's lyrics are personal, but pretty much everyone can relate. She sings about her problems, but they somehow relate to my problems. Their music is a powerful reassurance that this is indeed a good life. Download the album and listen to it over and over again and I guarantee the riffs and lyrics will be swirling around your brain endlessly. Listen closely, and listen repeatedly.

Unjustly overlooked

Hard to believe I'm the first person in 2 years to write a review for this album. iTunes compares them to PJ Harvey, but I would say the sound is more early Jefferson Airplane, if Jefferson Airplane were around now and writing music (Valley of Debris is probably the most JA-sounding song, but the lyrics are 100% modern.) Standout tracks are Into the Open, Finding Solutions (has a Mazzy Star sound to it) and All This Time, the song most people are probably familiar with. Very listenable, much more so than PJ Harvey IMHO (who I get tired of after a while). Really looking forward to hearing what this group does next.
