Editors’ Notes

Before yelling “Freebird!” like you were at a concert, be aware that this awesome Lynyrd Skynyrd collection closes with an epic live version. Stretching for well over 14 minutes, this lengthy take was recorded at Atlanta's Fox Theater during the band’s 1976 tour. But that’s only part of what makes this All Time Greatest Hits compilation so cool. The folks who pieced it together were seemingly aware that there are already several Skynyrd anthologies out there, so they chose some less obvious gems to pepper this one. Rather than throw in the original recording of “All I Can Do Is Write About It” from Skynyrd’s fourth studio album (Gimme Back My Bullets), the version here was pulled from the band's self-titled 1991 box set. Indubitably, the Lynyrd Skynyrd household hits that have come to define the band are here too. All Time Greatest Hits appropriately opens with the Dixie flag–waving, Neil Young–dissing Southern rock anthem “Sweet Home Alabama,” followed by the brawl-dodging boogie-rocker “Gimme Three Steps.”

Many great songs for an awesome price. Nice. Buy it. You will not be disapointed!!!!! Really. No joke. It's great stuff. Ya. :•}

A near perfect greatest hits collection

Lynyrd Skynyrd is easily the best southern rock band ever, one of the most versatile bands of all time, and possibly the best rock band period, and this album is all the proof anyone needs. It is a solid compilation for lynyrd skynyrd's greatest hits, chock full of amazing songs, but it does have two glaring errors. First, Tuesday's Gone is not on here (this was a huge mistake) and Free Bird is a sketchy live version, no studio version in this collection. Nonetheless, the collaboration of songs is better than most greatest hits albums, and every song is awesome. Hardcore skynyrd fans like myself will want more, though.

Love it!!!

Every song on this album is awesome!!!

Lynyrd Skynyrd was the definitive Southern rock band, fusing the overdriven power of blues-rock with a rebellious Southern image and a hard rock swagger. Skynyrd never relied on the jazzy improvisations of the Allman Brothers. Instead, they were a hard-living, hard-driving rock & roll band -- they may have jammed endlessly on-stage, but their music remained firmly entrenched in blues, rock, and country. For many, Lynyrd Skynyrd's redneck image tended to obscure the songwriting skills of their leader,...
