iTunes Editors’ Notes

Neil Diamond is that rare type of artist whose career has transcended decades, fashions, and genres. His innate flair for the dramatic plays well in an industry often dominated by stars who fail to enjoy their status as stars. Diamond immerses himself in the spoils of fame, and whether he’s singing the defiant anthem “Solitary Man” or the sentimental tearjerker “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,” he always sounds like a man who wins and loses exponentially beyond that of the average joe. This 23-track All-Time Greatest Hits is exactly as it states. It includes songs from throughout Diamond's lengthy career, and always his best. Hits such as “Sweet Caroline,” “America,” “Kentucky Woman,” “I’m a Believer” (a smash for The Monkees), and “I Am … I Said” capture the sound and feel of the eras from which they emerged. Diamond has an often-overlooked talent for phrasing; his influences run from Sinatra to Presley. This let him transform his songs from very nice compositions into classic hits.

Customer Reviews

Steal

10 bucks for 22 Neil diamond songs is a f#*@#4 steal

These are the Originals!

Despite what another reviewer has said, these are the original recordings of these classic songs, and they sound amazing. This CD is a steal at this price, considering the sheer amount of genius presented here. Rock on Neil!

Get Hot August Nights instead

I bought this because it was a good price and when I was a teenager in the early 70's I went to a Neil Diamond concert (I was not thrilled, but my dad took me and it was a GREAT concert)! Well the studio recordings of these songs do not have a fraction of the energy that is apparent when Neil is live in concert. So I bought the Hot August Night album (which I also owned after I went to the concert) and THAT is what I remember about that night! It's more expensive, but totally worth it.

In a career that began in the 1960s, Neil Diamond became a major recording artist, an internationally successful touring act, and a songwriter whose compositions produced hits for himself and others. His earliest recognition, in fact, came as a songwriter associated with the Brill Building era of Tin Pan Alley in the early '60s. But he soon branched out into recording and performing, and by the early '70s was topping the charts with the self-written singles "Cracklin' Rosie" and "Song Sung Blue."...
