iTunes Review

After an eight-year hiatus, The Pretenders return with this celebration of rock 'n' roll moxie produced by Dan Auerbach, Black Keys frontman and Chrissie Hynde’s fellow Akronite. Together they rekindle the sweet simplicities of girl-group pop (“I Hate Myself”), folk-rock (the languorous “Let’s Get Lost”), and garage punk (“Roadie Man,” drizzled with Farfisa). Old hearts become new on “Never Be Together” and “Holy Communion,” in which accelerating drumbeats incite lovelorn daydreams.

Distorted Pretending

I give this 4 stars for the songs. but this has to be the WORST production job I've heard in a while. You can barely msake out Chrissie's amazing voice above the tin can mastering of the instruments. Greats songd ruined by a crap mix job, so until this is fixed, I give it ONE star.

Pretenders, maybe, Chrissy, YES!!!!

the first two reviewers saying the mastering is bad, is more than likly listening to the compressed files on line. Get the vinyl, its deep and rich, ad Chrissy's vocal are up front! The Pretenders stopped being Pretenders over 30 years ago, with the death of two members, Martin cant play drums like he used to so he quit. Chrissy for now is the Pretenders and has one truly amazing band, which not only features one the Black Keys, but from Marty Stuarts band, the great Kenny Vaughan and the legendary Duane Eddy on guitar. Yea its got a Black Keys feel at time, but what producer doesnt place their feel and sound on a record. Its a brillant new record which im really getting into.

It's not Stockholm

We really enjoyed Chrissy Hind's last solo album and had high expectations for this one. But the style is different and not to our liking.

Over the years, the Pretenders became a vehicle for guitarist/vocalist Chrissie Hynde's songwriting, yet it was a full-fledged band when it was formed in the late '70s. With their initial records, the group crossed the bridge between punk/new wave and Top 40 pop more than any other band, recording a series of hard, spiky singles that were also melodic and immediately accessible. Hynde was an invigorating, sexy singer who bent the traditional male roles of rock & roll to her own liking, while guitarist...
