EDITORS’ NOTES

For his fourth album as Stimming, Hamburg producer Martin Stimming took to the Italian Alps, where he sequestered himself in a cabin to make music. He’s always made intelligent use of field recordings, and his dramatic surroundings seep into the gorgeous, elemental house of Alpe Luisa: there’s thunder on “Trains of Hope”, named in tribute to Europe’s refugees, a choir on “22 Degree Halo”, whose plosive beat feels like popping ears, and skittish improvised percussion on “Parking Lot”. The effect is soothing and eerie; connected to the natural world, while distant from our own.
