Editors’ Notes

Come to the Well—Casting Crowns' first studio album in two years—extends their message further by using the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman (from John 4: 3-42) as its key unifying theme. Lead singer/songwriter Mark Hall emphasizes God's renewing power by reaching across human divisions (“City on a Hill”), advocating compassion (“Jesus, Friend of Sinners”), and celebrating Christ as the one source of healing (the title song). “Courageous”—taken from an upcoming film of the same title—is an inspirational call aimed specifically at men. Hall takes his group’s sound in a more nuanced direction this time out, largely avoiding thunderous pop/rock in favor of semi-acoustic textures (though “My Own Worst Enemy” adds aggressive energy to the mix). The final track, “So Far to Find You” (cowritten by Hall with Steven Curtis Chapman), likens the entrance of an adopted child into a family with God’s embrace of believers, closing Come to the Well on a loving, intimate note.

Writing this from my Knees

Have loved Casting Crowns from their very first song, so you might question my ability to be impartial. I will try my best. One of the things that makes this band so dear to me is that they accomplish for me the true purpose of worship, their songs bring me to the very throne room of our Father. The songs on this album are no different from their predecessors. Courageous … who could say more than the movie already did … a calling that is needed today more than any other day. "City on the Hill" and "The Well" flow out of the speakers like a prayer sung right from my awaiting heart. [Disclaimer … listening to these two in the car might be dangerous as you are almost compelled to raise your hands high and close your eyes as you sing. :) ] "Already There" builds in grander reminding each of us of God's promises and presence and "Spirit Wind" has a wonderful bluegrassy feeling that will have you tapping you feet as you sing along. I am burning a disc for my car ride to work tomorrow … and am wondering if it is possible to wear out a CD by playing it over and over again … because I will be. Thank you members of Casting Crowns for bring the worship into this amazing album … and my heart.

Solid! Strong! This is an amazing album. The lyrics are piercing, the vocals and instrumentation dead on. City on a hill is a strong reminder of our shortcomings when we struggle in our relationships with one another and with God, while Jesus Friend of Sinners is the promise of the gospel and Gods forgiveness and connection to each of us....sinners one and all.
Although the group would simply point to heaven and give God the glory, as they should, this is an album destined to dominate the charts in this genre this year. Buy this will dominate your heart and direct your focus toward heaven.

Same old same old......

It sounds like every other Casting Crowns cd. I think we are all ready for a change. :(:(

One of the most enduring and highly decorated bands in the CCM community, Casting Crowns formed in 1999 as a student worship band in Daytona Beach, Florida. Led by singer, songwriter, and youth pastor Mark Hall, the group's initial lineup also included violinist Melodee DeVevo and a pair of guitarists, Juan DeVevo and Hector Cervantes. The musicians relocated to McDonough, Georgia in 2001 and expanded their lineup by adding bassist Chris Huffman, keyboardist Megan Garrett, and drummer Andy Williams....
