hell, any 'new' elliott, is great elliott....

You can definitely hear a slightly more 'produced' sound in some of these mixes (compared to the originals that is.) And even though I still think you'll never beat those 'original' lower-fi mixes off 'Either/Or' - it's still nice to hear at least 'something' new from him - especially with the alternate 'Punch & Judy' version - COMPLETELY different from the original. (I really wish his estate would release a lot more of his unheard material that they've been so rumored to have had for so long - but only time will tell I suppose) Because one thing's for sure - I think the current, sad state of music right now, could 'truly' benefit from more of his songs. Absolutely one of 'the best' songwriters of my generation, and possibly ever put on this earth - period.

The celebrated folk-punk singer/songwriter Elliott Smith rose from indie obscurity to mainstream success in 1997 on the strength of "Miss Misery," his Academy Award-nominated song from the film Good Will Hunting. A native of Portland, OR, Smith began writing and recording his first songs at age 14, later becoming a fixture of the city's thriving music scene. As a member of the band Heatmiser, he debuted in 1993 with the LP Dead Air, issuing his first solo effort Roman Candle on the tiny Cavity Search...
