Essentially Mike Smith solo
As for the 3 compilation of unreleased "Dave Clark Five" recordings offered on iTunes, the majority of the tracks are early 1970's "Dave Clark & Friends" recordings, defacto Mike Smith solo recordings, mostly cover versions with Dave Clark as producer. Starting in 1968(after the Dave Clark Five stopped touring), members started to drift away. Saxophonist Denis Payton was no longer on the records, and many tracks obviously lacked the guitar and harmony vocals of Lenny Davidson. There were tracks with horns, strings & female background vocalists, where it was obvious that Dave Clark & Mike Smith no longer had a complete band. Eventually(by 1970) Clark recognized this, and he changed the name of the act to "Dave Clark & Friends". These recordings were basically a contractual committment.
As with American rock group leader Paul Revere, Clark's public image was always that he was a businessman first, a musician second. And at a certain point(mid-1967 for Revere's group, early 1968 for Clark's group) it was apparent that CBS Records(Columbia & Epic) the American label for both groups, didn't care if Revere and Clark delivered true group recordings, or whether they delivered solo recordings by their lead singer, which would be released under the group name. For for both groups, much of their distinctive sound was lost, and it was the beginning of the end, though both Clark & Revere continued to release records(on which they had little or no involvement) through the mid-1970's.
How could a song written in 2002 (#13) be an unreleased DC5 track? I remember Mike Smith saying at his concert in 2003 he had just written it the year before. You aren't stealing from the dead now are you Dave?

Thanks Dave, Throughout the last year you've made me proud to have never turned my back on the DC5 over the last 48 yrs. Unreleased Tracks vol.1, 2 & 3 have made the waiting well worth it. I have followed your career since 1963 and have no problem admitting it. I love the music The DC5 have produced over the years. I have'nt purchased vol.3 because my computer has been in repairs for the last 3 wks, but I listen to the few seconds you've posted in the preview everyday on my lap top, can't wait to get my desk top back,so I can purchase vol. 3. I love Daddy Why ? I think it could have gone #1 if it recieved normal radio coverage.Looking Around reminds me of Your Turrn To Cry. Can't wait to hear the entire CD, Love Me Tender has turned out to be one of my favorites of all times, and Always Me has been a favorite of mine since 1974. Vol. 3 would have been the perfect time to release " GEORGIA" it would have fit in well, I remember The DC5 performing it on Picadilly Palace in 1968 can"t wait for the song to finally be released. I know you still have enough material to cover at least 3 more volumes. CAN"T WAIT for it all to be released. A Long & Devoted Fan, Dave Your Music will Always Rank A 10 with Me. Thanks. The DC5 - 4 ever.
