Let me tell you about Luce...

Excellent album - their best work! It's a perfect progression for them, and yet they stay true to their laid back, positive, listenable style. This album is a great listen - start to finish! It's been a long wait, but well worth it! Let me tell you about Luce... they were the opening act for a band I went to see in Indy 3 or so years ago. This was right at the time when all their stuff got ripped off. Of course, none of us in the crowd knew that - all we knew was that we'd paid for a show, and the opening act was late. We weren't happy! Finally, these guys showed up (Luce) and in record time, set up their equipment and started playing. Honestly, we were all like, who the heck are these guys? I just want to hear the band I came for. Luce had opened with their amazing cover of "Elenor Rigby" (it sounded familiar, but different and none of us could place it until the Tom started in on the lyrics) and we were all stunned into amazement. They played like they were releasing all their frustration. The crowd was eating up every minute. They played 10 or so songs and I was hooked. I would have paid just to see those 10 songs. (and the new ten are even better!) They stayed and hung out with the crowd during the main show, laughing, thanking people for buying their CD's and signing those same CD's. I was (am) impressed with their music, their work ethic, and their approachability. A lot of bands would have quit with what these guys have been through. Instead, Luce just keeps getting better.

Best band you've never heard of.

Just kidding of course. If you are from the Bay Area and follow the local music scene at all, you most likely know Luce. But, they are still relatively unknown in most parts of the country which is a shame. Tom Luce is an excellent pop songwriter in the tradition of Lennon-McCartney, Squeeze, Neil Finn, etc., and as a band they are tight and do a great job of complementing the songs' strong melodies without any one instrument dominating. This CD sees their sound evolve again with tighter arrangements and no use of horns which has been a signature sound for them since their first major single Good Day found its way into a bunch of movie and TV soundtracks. If you like solid pop songwriting with positive but introspective lyrical themes and great sounding arrangements you should really check this band out.

This album is at a whole new level for LUCE!

I got turned on to these guys last year through a friend who invited my wife and me to see their show at the Little Fox Theatre in Redwood City. On that one show, I purchased "Never Ending" which I dig and still listen to a lot, but this new album is in another dimension. The arrangements and production are the best ever, and Tom's songwriting is outstanding. I really "get" the stories he's trying to tell. Great album!
