Reseña de álbum

The Offspring may have been a product of the Southern California hardcore scene, but their instincts have always been more metal than punk. Their guitars plod along with a heavy backbeat, and even their speedier numbers are weighed down by clumsy riffs, which is evident on Ixnay on the Hombre, the follow-up to the group's unexpected hit Smash. Despite Jello Biafra's opening assertion of the Offspring's punk credentials, Ixnay on the Hombre sounds like a competent hard rock band trying to hitch themselves to the post-grunge bandwagon. The riffs don't have hooks, and Dexter Holland yelps his vocals tunelessly. Of course, much hardcore followed this formula, but it got by on its self-righteousness and visceral forward force. Since the Offspring slow down the tempo of hardcore, it doesn't have either the undiluted rage of hardcore or the four-on-the-floor groove of hard rock. Also, they haven't come up with a ridiculous hook on the level of "Come Out and Play" or "Self Esteem," which leaves Ixnay on the Hombre as a tedious, turgid mess of anemic punk metal.

The legacy shines on...

Over the years, it would seem as though the Offspring have become known more for Smash and Americana than Ixnay on the Hombre. Although Smash is without a doubt their most successful album to date, Ixnay on the Hombre is perhaps the most underrated CD the band has ever put out. Truly, if one was to listen to every song, they would realize quickly that this is the Offspring's greatest work of their career. Standout classics such as "Gone Away" and "I Choose" are their finest songs written, while "Me & My Old Lady" "Way Down the Line" and "The Meaning of Life" and the powerful "Amazed" follow right on those two songs' heels. This CD is for the everyone who fancies themselves true Offspring fans. Your collection of music is not complete without Ixnay on the Hombre.

One of the most Underrated Albums of all time!

Alright, soo, this is probably my favorite album by The Offspring. It's just amazing. Period. 1.Disclaimer : Amusing Introduction to an amazing CD 2.The Meaning of Life : This was at one point my favorite song on the CD-Dexter's voice is great in this song. 8/10 3. Mota : I always think I don't like this song very much...Then I'll listen to it and be like, wait, what was I thinking?! haha. Awesome beat. 7.5/10 4. Me & My Old Lady : I honestly don't like this song very much...I've probably listened to it from beginning to time? I don't know. There's nothing really wrong with it, it's just kinda dull to me. 6/10 5. Cool to Hate : Again, not a personal favorite, I rarely listen to this song. 7/10 6. Leave It Behind : Simply Amazing. I love the lyrics and the this one. 10/10 7. Gone Away : Veryyy meaningful lyrics. I overplayed this one too much lol. but it's definitely worth your money. There's a reason it was put onto their Greatest Hits CD. The ending is EPIC might I add. 9/10 8. I Choose : Don't listen to it a lot, but it's really good. It's fun and upbeat. It seems to always put me in a good mood when I listen to it :) 8/10 9. Intermission : Pretty much self-explanatory, it's an intermission song. Humorous with the sighing every-so-often. 10. All I Want : CLASSIC OFFSPRING! It's the song that got me hooked. It gets your adrenaline rushing. It's just a rebellious, leave me alone, I do what I want kinda thing. I used to just listen to it OVER and OVER again! And I probably could right now too... 10/10 11. Way Down the Line : This is a fun one to follow along to the lyrics. And by the way, if you're wondering where you heard this, it is played on the video game Crazy Taxi...along with All I Want. (Two great choices:]) 9/10 12. My 2nd favorite song out of all of their albums...possibly? It's really fun, and it's really happy, and it's just, GREAT! buy it. now. 10/10 13. Amazed : This song kinda has the same sound as Gone Away, but I think it sounds a little darker. I really love listening to Dexter sing in this one. Definitely a good one. 9/10 14. Change the World : The guitar in this is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! So are the vocals, the lyrics, EVERYTHING! Definitely buy this one. You won't regret it. I used to be obsessed with this song. 10/10 Okay, hopefully that was helpful to some people. If you like this album, go buy Ignition too. (Kick Him When He's Down is my absolute favorite song by The Offspring --> It's on it right this instant! lol.

What a great album

This CD never gets old. If I had 3 CDs I could bring with me on a dessert island, this and Smash would be two of them. The offspring in the earlier years were AWESOME. I only wish more music was this good now-a-days. If you like any of the songs on this CD buy it, its a real treat to listen to!

"Come Out and Play", que sonaba como si fuese de Nirvana,...
