iTunes Editors’ Notes

When The Dixie Chicks' Emily Robison and Martie Maguire revived their side project Court Yard Hounds for their second album, Amelita, their bandmate Natalie Maines decided to make a record of primarily covers. Both projects have a poppy adult contemporary/country-lite feel to them, with the difference being that most of Amelita's songs were written by Robison and/or Maguire with Martin Strayer. The harmonies here are strong, naturally, and a tune such as "Phoebe" plays toward their bluesy-bluegrass roots. But "Rock All Night" definitely gears itself to the barroom-rocker crowd—granted with acoustic guitars loud in the mix alongside demanding drums. "Watch Your Step" boogies with a touch of Creedence. Producer Jim Scott provides a strong but never too slick production. The ladies' professionalism seals the deal. Country radio may not be sure what to do with Court Yard Hounds, but adult contemporary spots on the dial will surely warm to the traditional sentiments of "The Best Is Yet to Come."

Court Yard Hounds Rock!

Emily and Martie proves that they have moved on past The Dixie Chicks days! 'Amelita' is this summers secret delight! 'Sunshine', sung by Emily, is an awesome 'stick it to you' song about a friend who "thinks too much of herself"! And Martie does excellent on lead vocals on 'Guy Like You'! 'Rock All Night' is a feel good song that makes you want to dance with your friends and 'Are You Man Enough' is reminiscent is Cheryl Crow's 'Are You Strong Enough'! After hearing this album, you'll wonder why the sisters never took lead vocals during their Dixie Chicks days! It's a feel good Country/Pop album that is a solid A! A Grammy potential for next year!

Groove your guts out ....

I have been a Dixie Chicks fan since the beginning and I am now a big fan of Courtyard Hounds. The music is extraordinary, the harmonizing is perfection and overall it is a fantastic selection for their second album! Emily and Martie are rocking what their Mama gave them so I suggest you all buy the album!

AWESOME!

Such an improvement over the first album. 'Court Yard Hounds' was a solid B. This album is a ROCK HARD A!

Three years after 2006’s Taking the Long Way, sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire were ready to cut a new Dixie Chicks album, but Natalie Maines wasn’t prepared to participate, so the siblings struck out on their own as the duo Court Yard Hounds. Robison stepped into the role as frontwoman for the group, and the pair retained the service of much of the Dixie Chicks extended family — including Maines’ father Lloyd as a guitarist — during the recording of their eponymous debut.
