About Orli Shaham

Classical pianist Orli Shaham's exceptional musical gifts were apparent very early on. She began her studies in Jerusalem at the Rubin Academy of Music, learning under the guidance of Luisa Yoffe. When Shaham was barely five years old, she won a musical scholarship from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation. Her remarkable performances could be heard on Israeli radio at the time.

Before her eighth birthday, Shaham and her family left their homeland and moved to the United States. In New York, she studied with Nancy Stessin for about a year, and then was given a scholarship to attend the famous Juilliard School of Music where she became a student of Herbert Stressin.

In 1995, Shaham was the recipient of the Gilmore Young Artists Award. Two years later, she received the Avery Fisher Career Grant. That same year, Orli Shaham and her big brother, gifted and well-known violinist Gil Shaham, recorded an album together, Dvorák for Two.

Orli Shaham has done recitals and performed worldwide, appearing with the Jerusalem Symphony, the Houston Symphony, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the National Symphony, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. ~ Charlotte Dillon
