A beautiful masterpiece

this album was marred by the media and the impending war on iraq when it was released, unfortunatley people missed one of madonna's FINEST music efforts to date, this is Madonna allowing the public to get an inside scoop of who she really is and what she has become, an un material girl, but a person who has feelings and depth despite what the media thinks they know of her or assume. this is her best record since "ray of light" and it was completely overlooked by the american public, for those who doubt that this is a good record...your wrong, for those who read reviews and went with the negative reviews think for yourself, what your missing. I urge any Madonna fan who did not buy this record to get it, listen to it with an open mind and let Madonna guide you into a spiritaul journey that you will never forget, truly and amazing work of art..American Life was not written to rebuke a war that she didn't start, it was written from her point of view and feeling about fame, fortune and everything in between...this is my favorite Madonna cd of all time...21 years of loving her and this one is my Favorite. buy it..listen to it...and LOVE IT. you won't regret it.

GREAT ALBUM AT A WRONG TIME

When I first listened to the album, i thought the critics were right. But after I played it 2 more times, I realized that they were wrong. In fact, this is Madonna's most serious album. It is a politically-charged album that came out during the early part of the war in Iraq. I think it was the poor timing and madonna's message (being against the war) that eventually affected the album sales and airplay. Regardless, this album showcased Madonna's vocal talent and her ability to push the buttons without being apologetic.

Ray of Light (part 2)

The CD should've been one of her greatest and most respected hits. True Madonna fans will always love this CD. AL has surpassed Ray of Light as being my favorite Madonna CD. Yes, it can be dark at times. Yes, it can be silly at times. Yes, it can be deep at times. People seem to want Madonna to always make poppy dance CD's. Madonna will never stop making great dance records (BTW, AL has more #1 Billboard Dance Hits then any other album in history) but every so often people should give her darker records a chance. Some of the songs on Al should rank among her best. "Love Profusion" is pure pop perfection, "Nobody Knows Me" should've been a single, "Nothing Fails" rivals "Like a Prayer", and she has never dug deeper then "Intervention" "X-Static Process" and "Mother and Father." I am still moved 3 years later by LA and I believe it will go down as one of her most underrated CD's of all time.

After stars reach a certain point, it's easy to forget what they became famous for and concentrate solely on their personas. Madonna is such a star. She rocketed to stardom so quickly in 1984 that it obscured most of her musical virtues. Appreciating her music became even more difficult as the decade wore on, as discussing her lifestyle became more common. However, one of Madonna's greatest achievements is how she has manipulated the media and the public with...
