iTunes Editors’ Notes

Colton Dixon asserts his strengths as a Christian pop/rocker on his eclectic sophomore album, Anchor. A seventh-place finish on the 2011 season of American Idol brought this Tennessee-based artist to widespread attention; his debut release, A Messenger, confirmed his multifaceted artistic potential. Anchor is a confident follow-up, benefitting from songwriting input by such notables as tobyMac, Matthew West, and Ben Glover. Lyrically, the album favors inspirational themes that acknowledge the fears and doubts standing in the way of redemption. Dixon does well with upbeat, synth-drenched worship tunes like “More of You” and “Limitless.” Whether he’s sailing on techno grooves (“Echo,” “Fool’s Gold”) or flashing some Aerosmith-esque swagger (“Loud and Clear”), Dixon sings with both style and conviction. His most personal moment comes with “Through All of It,” a piano ballad that touches on both his spiritual struggles and career challenges.

ABSOLUTELY MIND-BLOWN!

Colton Dixon is an amazing singer and a great guy. It's true then, what I just thought the other day, that as an artist changes, progresses, grows and matures (or the other way around, but not this time!) anyway then their changes, progresses, grows, and matures also as they do. Colton has done an amazing job and I'm proud to be a fan! I'm so glad that he's Christian and that his music definitely reflects that! I cannot wait until August 19th! I just used all my allowance on Ted Dekker books (: so now I can't pre-order this awesome album ): but I'll do some chores or something to buy "Our time is now"! Buy this album and "A Messenger" right now.. I promise you won't regret it!!

Waiting for album #3

I bought the ‘Anchor’ album without hesitation since Colton’s debut “Messenger” is my favorite of all time. “Anchor” is a great album with the right beat to get your fists pumping and head banging. The music side of the album is 10 out of 10. That being said, this album did fall a little short of Colton’s reputation. Colton’s message is what separates him from other Christian artists. It’s the reason he is my favorite. I’ve seen him in concert 3 times and have driven as many as 6 hours round trip to catch a live concert. Colton’s focus and message is on God and His love and grace and that is where Colton’s “Messenger” album takes you in every single song. The “Messenger” album lyric takes the focus off of us and our short comings and puts it on Christ and the love and grace that is offered through Him and the finished work at the cross. I was hopeful with the release of his single “More of You” because it is on track with that same message, however “Anchor” as a whole seems to shift the focus from God back on to me. As I listen to this album the general message that I hear is more about me and my doubts, my being tired, my sorrow, me drifting further from Gods reach and then (if we fight the tide or take off our blindfold) about God’s redemption and promise of hope. My thoughts as a Christian are that we don’t need to fight the tide or take off our blindfold, if we look to God and trust Him, He will do it for us. It’s our job to believe, and God’s job to do. This is a great album for a Christian who is struggling with something or someone who seems to live in their past failures. It gives hope to someone that needs encouragement. It gives them an opportunity to turn toward God and let Him be their everything. For me, who has already been there and done that, I am unable to connect to the message of the “Anchor” album and I’m left on the fence waiting for album #3. Compared to Colton’s debut album “Messenger” I give Anchor a 6 out of 10. Compared to other Christian artists and the message they have in their songs, Anchor is a 9 out of 10.

Great

I just bought his last album and love it. Then I heard "More of You" on the radio. This is going to be his best album.
