Album Review

This musical tribute to ancient Egypt was originally composed in 1978 for the King Tutankhamun exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum. It was inspired by the artistry of the ancient treasures and the religious symbolism of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, which suggested titles of the compositions. Only traditional Near Eastern instruments were used in making this recording, like the nay, salamiyyah, buzuq, mijwiz, mizmar and others.

Ancient Egypt

This album is really nice, its soothing, sounds great, and is good to play during work of sorts. I really recomend this album to anyone that needs something to relax to, or is a fan of world music. Ali Jihad Racy has done an excellent job on this album. I wonder if Egypt's music back in its glory days was as good...

Very Soothing

Ali Jehad Racy uses traditional egyptian instruments to create a magnificent work of art that is extremely soothing. This music is great for soothing the mind and removing stress. Definite relaxing music.

Perfect Study Aid and Relaxation Music

Ancient Egypt was a great discovery during my quest to find music to which I can study without distraction. Upon testing out this album for the first time while studying in the library, I was impressed how the music seemlessly took me into another dimension, another world, while still facilitating my concentration on the subject being studied. I can equally relax to this music as well, as each note carries me further down the Nile or through the streets of Amarna, bringing ancient Egypt to life. As a lover of music from almost all genres, this is definitely one album I most appreciate for its simplicity, beauty, and imaginative versatility. Perhaps the most striking track on the album is "Funeral Procession." The incessant droning is very soothing and the instruments are magical. This album is highly recommended if you are looking for reading/study music, relaxation music, or are simply expanding your world music library.
