This is a beautiful CD. The music making feels deep and lived in. Clearly Helton and Gordon are old friends and it shows...there is an air of familiarity, dialogue...which makes all of these beautiful songs feel so vital and meaningful...one feels spoken to. And then, when it gets to the orchestral cycle, well, it is like an explosion. The orchestrations are lush and epic and the cumming's settings are exquisite. "Anyone Lived In A Pretty How Town," may be one of the most poignant songs ever...every soprano should do this cycle, like Strauss' "Four Last Songs." This CD is a must have for those who love contemporary art songs as well as poetry fans...as the poems are so clear in their settings. Bravo to Blue Griffin for the beautifully produced gem.
