Face Melting

You know I've been listening to Andy James for 2 years now. I was a die hard Satriani/Petrucci fan and constantly looking for new guitarists to listen to but I would mostly fall back listening to Joe. Then I came upon this music and was blown away. Joe is still my favorite all-time guitarist but if Joe was a product of Jimi's music .. Andy is definitely a product of Satriani/Petrucci/Vai and others alike and has taking their abilities to another level, the Andy James level. Heavy and in your face this album is full on. There are a couple of melodic tracks like Dust in the Wind into Separation and What Lies Beneath that balance the album, but mainly heavy with blistering solos. The rhythm riffs behind all heavy tracks couldn't be better. This album to me is amazing. Into the Void, Gateways, Angel of Darkness and War March are must haves. Into the Void is my favorite track on this album. A song that could have been named Devil's Day 2. War March is my second favorite. Gateways has a heavy rhythm riff that makes you want to break things and is combined with a melodic lead tone, perfect combo. The songs that are for the shred enthusiast (besides the entire album) are War March, Angel of Darkness, Burn it Down, The Storm and Bullet in the Head. Most tracks have runs off the chart. If you like Andy's past albums just buy the entire album, you won't be disappointed.

This man is his own genre, incredible

Over the top shredfest

Incredible technique. Extremely clean. Andy is a chameleon of sorts. His influences show through a lot in his playing but in a good way. He takes some of the coolest elements from his influences (Paul Gilbert's string skipping sequenced arpeggios, Petrucci-esque style picked lines, wah melodies highly reminiscent of Satriani , etc. and puts it all together into a complete package with a good powerful metal rhythm section. To top it off he has a much better production than his previous efforts which ups the listening experience.
