Album Review

Kathleen Battle's Angels' Glory is a terrific holiday album that appropriately concentrates on religious-themed traditional carols. It's a somber yet joyous affair which won't be suited to light-hearted Christmas parties, yet makes for fine inspirational Christmas listening.

Finally available

This is my absolute favorite Christmas Eve album. The quiet virtuosity of Christopher Parkening's guitar and the glory of Kathleen Battle's voice meld together perfectly on these gentle carols, many of which have their basis in lullabies. My favorites are Mary Did You Know and Suo Gan both of which I have in other versions, but these are the ones I constantly come back to. I don't think there's a bad song on here.

A Perfect Pick for a Night By the Fire

This is such a beautiful album that I find myself returning to it over and over. Battle's voice is like molten silver, and Parkening's guitar work is the perfect accompaniment. It also highlights lovely and what may be less familiar Christmas songs from several nations. The Catalan carols are my personal favorites. Glorious!
