Album Review

Blending technology with organic rock, Hello, the 1995 debut by the well-traveled singer/songwriter Poe is a striking record that manages to groove and feed the head with well-written observations. Working with a myriad of co-writers, producers (including Dave Jerden of Alice in Chains fame), and musicians (including ex-Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum), Hello could have been an unfocused mess. However, that is not the case; the album has a definite cohesiveness. The title track leads things off with a hypnotic, ambient pop vibe as Poe attempts to communicate with someone who will not be reached. At the other end of the spectrum is the following cut, "Trigger Happy Jack." Over grinding guitars, Poe again expresses an inability to communicate with someone and the chorus is immediately memorable. Maybe a little schizophrenic musically, Hello is an enjoyable romp where practically each track is a surprise waiting to be found.

Truly remarkable

Poe's lyrical and musical blends are so steeped in texture and depth but yet seemless in flow. Quite a feat with so many sounds surrounding every word. I have loved Poe's work for over a decade already. It saddens me that so many people have missed out on her musical genius. I have always wondered what has kept her from sharing more music other than just the 2 great albums produced. I hope the 2012 rumor is true of her return after contractual issues subside. I will be waiting.

I love this album!

I first heard Angry I bought the album...back in the day...and I loved the whole thing!!

Most played artist in my library

Poe is one of my all time favorite artists. Her music is beautiful, poetic, and achingly honest. Her emotions are displayed through the lyrics, her voice, and the accompanying music. I find her music is the perfect accompaniment to most of my moods and activities and she is always on auto-repeat. My only complaint about Poe is that she has not put anything new out in so long.
