Notas editoriales de iTunes

Recorded at L.A.'s Wiltern Theatre during the 2003 tour following the release of The Raven, Animal is among Lou Reed's most rewarding live albums. The ensemble is small and focused, often without drums; this creates a sense of chamber music rock 'n' roll. Bassist Fernando Saunders coproduces and adds backup vocals, while Antony Hegarty of Antony & The Johnsons sings lead on "Candy Says" and "Set the Twilight Reeling," providing an almost Nico-like experience. Cellist Jane Scarpantoni brings a sense of warmth to "Tell It to Your Heart" and "Vanishing Act" and returns the drama to the S&M classic "Venus in Furs," here in an epic performance. Reed's stage banter is hilarious and engaging, bringing a sense of mischief to Songs for Drella's "Smalltown" and insight to "Street Hassle" and the opening "Advice." There isn't a better, more affecting version of "The Day John Kennedy Died," while "Dirty Blvd." is performed in an expansive version. An essential work.

iTunes Has Got Their Info Wrong!!

To clarify what some other customers have pointed out, there are a couple of glaring errors in iTunes' product details for this album. First off, the name of the album should be "ANIMAL SERENADE." For some reason, iTunes only lists it as "Animal." Secondly, and more importantly, the iTunes "Album Review" is for the WRONG ALBUM! They accidentally included the review for Lou's 1973 bootleg album, "The Phantom Animal." This album is actually a live recording from one of his 2003 shows in support of The Raven. It was recorded in Los Angeles & released in 2004. The album itself is great. Lou sounds fantastic with a scaled down backing band (yes, that includes Antony Hegarty from Antony & the Johnsons). They cover a lot of Velvet Undergound material too, which is nice. But I didn't want to get into an in-depth review-- I mainly wanted to clarify the incorrect album details supplied by iTunes.

An excellent live album, but certainly not from 1973. "Dirty Blvd." was written in the late '80s, and you can clearly hear Antony Hegarty (who was two years old in 1973) on several of the tracks.

iTunes Review is Wrong on Dates

This is album is not from a 1972 recording. A number of the songs are from the late 80s and beyond: Smalltown, Ecstasy,Dirty Blvd,Set the Twilight Reeling, just to name a few. Its still great Lou Reed but not a great review.

The career of Lou Reed defied capsule summarization. Like David Bowie (whom Reed directly inspired in many ways), he made over his image many times, mutating from theatrical glam rocker to strung-out junkie to avant-garde noiseman to straight rock & roller to your average guy. Few would deny Reed's immense importance and considerable achievements. As has often been written, he expanded the vocabulary of rock & roll lyrics into the previously forbidden territory of kinky sex, drug use (and...
