iTunes Review

From rare recordings with Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best in their short time with The Beatles to the band fine-tuning their live skills from Hamburg to Sweden, the first in the Anthology series is filled with historic milestones and incredible music. Anthology 1 leads off with “Free As a Bird,” originally a demo recorded by John Lennon in 1977 and reworked by George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney in 1994. From there, this collection chronicles the band’s fiery, R&B-fueled years from 1958 through 1964 and features previously unreleased recordings, live versions, alternate takes, and interview snippets of the band as they began to set the world aflame.

"Free as a Bird"! <3

The Fab Four's Scrapbook

Anthology 1 is a heaping helping of Beatles awesomeness. In a nutshell, the 3 anthology compilations cover anything that (for any reason) they couldn't put on the studio albums. Ranging from old Quarryman recordings, to Alternate versions of Beatles hits, to John Lennon demos that the other Beatles added to.

Some of the songs have bad audio quality, but that only adds to the beauty of the songs. It feels like a real Privilege to be able to hear these hidden gems, and I recommend them to any fans of the Beatles.

Where the started, not as Beatles,as young boys.

This disc has everything someone who possibly has not heard of the Beatles which is unheard of! A chance to hear them as teens before the even became The Beatles. From school chums to life long friends and the best band of all time!

So much has been said and written about the Beatles -- and their story is so mythic in its sweep -- that it's difficult to summarize their career without restating clichés that have already been digested by tens of millions of rock fans. To start with the obvious, they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Moreover, they were among the few artists of any discipline that were simultaneously...
